THE WORK

Jewelry

Everything on these pages is knitted. Fine yarn, small needles, and beads worked in one at a time as the stitches are made.

The stitches themselves are ones any knitter already knows. Two sticks and a string. What I do with the knitted pieces afterward is where the work becomes mine, and most of those techniques are my own, worked out one swatch at a time, usually because I wanted something that did not exist yet: the all-purl I-cord spiral, the tubular bead wrapper, soft beads, the Zipper Graft, the beaded overcast seam, and ABACUS, which came along after the book. I like to call it KNITTING MADE CLEVER.

PAPER CASCADE

I'm always on the lookout for unusual components that can inspire the next design. This necklace, "Paper Cascade" - with its rolled paper beads - is a great example of the magic that can result.

I show my work in many wonderful places. I get asked lots of interesting questions. And I have a lot of thoughts about creativity, inspiration, design, art and artistry, among other things. I've been writing in this website blog about all of these for 14 years. Along with new posts, I've brought forward some of my favorite older blog posts onto this new site as a way of introducing new followers to my work and to my left-brained process. I hope you'll click over and check it out. Newest posts will always be on top.
